Chateau was one of my favorite coliving experiences to date – and that’s saying a lot! Usually we only get to look at castles – and if you stay at Chateau, you’ll get to live in one. This incredibly unique colive is in Normandy, France, and I’d put it on your digital nomad bucket list STAT.
I can’t recommend Chateau Coliving highly enough. Get 100€ off your colive stay for any themed month or Spring coliving with the code DURACATRAVELS! Tell Katia, Jeanne & the Chateau fam that I sent you! You will NOT regret spending a month (or more) living in a freaking castle in the French countryside.
I only recommend places I’ve personally vetted – you can read more about what I look for in a coliving space here & find my full list of recommendations (and discounts!) here.
Chateau is in Normandy – check the weather for when you’re planning to go. If you want to escape summer heat, this is a great place. It’s also a bit rural/isolated, so you may want to consider renting a car. I didn’t, and it worked out fine – but having a car would have been great. Chateau has you order groceries 2x per week, and there’s a trip to the farmers market every week. I cooked a lot more than I usually do. It’s not a place you’ll be getting Uber Eats.
This is a unique colive experience – let’s get into it!
Price. I paid €1.735,83 ($1849.66) for 27 nights = $68.51
Value. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(5/5)

Bedroom. I booked a deluxe room and I loved it. I had a huge room complete with a couch/sitting area and a private bathroom with a massive bathtub and shower. I had an antique desk that wasn’t great for working, and unfortunately the wifi didn’t work very well in my room. Some of the standard rooms had a much more functional desk and better wifi, and there is a whole separate cowork with call rooms. I loved being in the castle itself. In terms of value for money, Chateau is excellent. Next time I’d probably get a standard room. For me, the whole point was living in a castle, so I wouldn’t have wanted a room in the manor house; I think the budget rooms also don’t have quite as much of a castle-y feel.
Work space. You can work from common rooms in the castle – there’s a dining room table and a great nook. There’s a dedicated coworking space in the Manor House, about a five-minute walk from the castle, which has three call booths. I kind of liked having the separation to have a short “commute” to work. But it would have been nice if it was easy to take calls in my room.

Common areas. Chateau is a whole lil estate. There is the castle itself, with several floors. The whole bottom two floors are common area – the basement has the kitchen, a gym (with a squat rack!!!), laundry room, and a foosball table & art area. The first floor has a mini-kitchen for morning coffee, grand dining room, sitting area (and costume closet!), and living room with lots of cozy couches, a TV for movie nights, and a nook with a table that’s great for working. The cowork space is at the manor house, and it has three call booths as well as lots of table space. We also used this space for yoga and to have a rave! There’s tons of outdoor space, including a bonfire area, a freaking tennis court, a soccer field, and lots of room to walk around.
Kitchen/coffee. I cooked more at Chateau than I usually do…by necessity, but it was nice to do more cooking! The kitchen has everything you need. That said, the kitchen set up could definitely be better considering how many people are using it so frequently. There’s free coffee and tea and an espresso machine.
Amenities. Free coffee and tea, potable water, coworking space included, games, fully furnished, Chateau will bring you groceries 2x per week, there’s a weekly trip to the farmer’s market, and there’s the van you can borrow for a fee. Multiple yoga classes per week were included while I was there, which was so nice. They also organize a weekly family lunch you can pay for.

Location. The castle is in rural Normandy, so it’s not somewhere you can walk to a restaurant. Town is about a 20 minute bike ride away. The castle and the area has so much history, including World War II history. The castle was liberated on D-Day, and it’s very close to Utah and Omaha beach where allied forces landed on D-Day. One of my favorite things at Chateau was the tour they did of the property itself. If you’re a history buff, there’s tons of it here. There are some cool day/weekend trips to be done from here, including Mont Saint-Michel, which is one of the biggest tourist destinations in France, and Saint Malo.
Cleanliness & room cleaning. A once-a-week cleaning is included in your stay – this is what I prefer for longer-term stays. The cleaner, Rosy, is a treasure.
Staff. Jeanne and Kevin were the community managers while I was there, and they were phenomenal. Anastasia taught yoga 3x per week, made community lunch once a week, and was also amazing. You’ll also meet the lovely housekeeper, Rosy, and property manager, Rolando.

Community management. Fantastic! We had a family meeting every Monday to plan activities for the week. Being in a more rural/isolated area meant we were making our own fun, which was fantastic for bonding and community building. We planned so many wild and fun activities – a Chateau Olympics field day, a Bridgerton high tea ball, a forest rave, and even did a weekend festival trip! One thing I love about Chateau is everyone arrived the same day and left at the same time – it made for a really close-knit crew!
Members. Amazing! I freaking loved the people I met at Chateau. Having a more isolated/rural area definitely lends itself to lots of bonding time. It was a different crowd than I’ve seen at many colivings – think of people who want to live in a castle ;p There were some older and less-active folks, and not everyone was a nomad. Definitely an artsy and creative crowd. There were also two families with kids, which I’ve never experienced in a coliving before. They stayed in the Manor House and both families were super cool.
