My favorite digital tools, services & apps
Biz Tools
Podia
ONLINE COURSE HOSTING
Iβve been using Podia since 2020 to host my online course β itβs super user-friendly and easy to set up! Podia is where all my business coaching programs are hosted β Zero to Launch, Book Out Your Business >>> Marketing Bootcamp, etc.
ConvertKit
EMAIL MARKETING
If youβre only relying on social media and platforms other people own, you need an email list. ConvertKit is super user-friendly and itβs what the Duraca Travels emails list runs on!
Wise
INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS
If you need to get paid in a foreign currency or pay someone who doesn't have PayPal or Venmo - voila! The transfer fees are sooo much cheaper than PayPal, wire transfer, or anything else!
NordVPN
VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK
Itβs important to think about your online security and data privacy as well as your physical safety. I use NordVPN to protect my financial data, passwords, and client info when Iβm working from a public wifi network. β¦Itβs also great for streaming Hulu ;p I even know some nomads whose work doesnβt know where they areβ¦
Getting Around
Google Flights
CHEAP FLIGHTS
I love using Google Flights to find the best flights and do quick travel planning.
Google Maps
GETTING AROUND
Duh, Google Maps is a a game changer for getting around anywhere you don't know. Pro tip: Download the offline map before you go.
Omio
TRANSPORTATION BOOKING, TRAIN, BUS & FLIGHT TICKETS
Different countries have different popular booking platforms. Omio has been incredibly helpful β especially in Europe β for understanding and booking train tickets. Itβs super user-friendly and helps eliminate the confusion of different transportation sites and languages.
Rome2Rio
GETTING AROUND ABROAD
Doing some planning and not sure if you can physically get from A to B? Rome2Rio is a lifesaver for trip planning.
Airalo
GETTING AROUND ABROAD
Landing in a new country where you wonβt have cell service, as a nomad does? Install Airalo as your second esim so you have data when you land. Makes getting around a LOT easier, and I like having data for safety as well. There are cheaper options, but Iβve found this esim to be the easiest and most convenient.
Discover Cars
CAR RENTAL
I didnβt rent a car until I was 27, and itβs still not a default move for me when Iβm traveling. But, it is amazing what renting a car enables you to do! You can really get off the beaten track, explore places like a local, and have so much freedom.
Research &
Booking for
Flights and
Airports
Kiwi.com
FLIGHT RESEARCH AND BOOKING, TRAIN, AND BUS TICKETS
Kiwi has some of the best search options and unique combinations β youβll find some of the cheapest flight deals here β and theyβll even combine flight, train, and bus tickets into a single itinerary.
Priority Pass
AIRPORT LOUNGE ACCESS
If you donβt get Priority Pass through your Chase travel card (see my financial recs here), itβs totally worth getting on itβs own. I had never been in an airport lounge before 2019 β itβs mind-blowing how the other half lives. Comfy chairs and couches, outlets wherever you look, free food and coffee, your own nice bathroomsβ¦if youβre flying a lot, you will easily make your investment in a Priority Pass from saving on airport food within a year.
Research &
Booking for
Lodging and
Hotels
That is, if youβre not staying at one of my favorite colivings just for digital nomads.
Booking.com
LODGING & HOTEL BOOKING
Every country seems to have different booking sites that are more or less popular. Booking.com is pretty universal and seems to have more options in Europe, including for longer-term stays. I love the Genius features (sometimes itβs actually cheaper to book through Booking.com), and that you can usually choose if you want a refundable booking, breakfast, and want to pay later.
VRBO
LODGING & HOTEL BOOKING
VRBO is similar to Airbnb and has some great options. I found some things here in Mexico that werenβt listed elsewhere.
Agoda
LODGING & HOTEL BOOKING
Agoda is starting to compete with Booking.com in terms of having great discounts and sometimes being cheaper to book through them. I found theyβve got some great options for longer-term stays, especially in Asia.
HostelWorld
LODGING & HOTEL BOOKING
As a nomad, Iβm working, not just on vacation & partying, so I donβt stay at hostels a lot anymore unless Iβm on vacation. However, A) HostelWorld has some non-hostels β for cheaper prices than on other sites and B) there are some hostels that are great for working and way cheaper than other options.
Tours and
Exploring Your Destination
Viator
TOUR BOOKING
When youβre nomading, youβre aiming to live like a local, not a tourist. But you still want to explore and experience the cool and unique things about the city! So I often like to check out the tours and experiences available in my new city, especially if Iβm traveling solo. Iβve used Viator to skip the line and see Christ the Redeemer in Brazil!
Tripadvisor
THINGS TO DO
A great overall site for checking out the main attractions where you are and getting an idea of the possible tours, restaurants, and sites youβll want to visit.
Get Your Guide
TOUR BOOKING
Get Your Guide is an up-and-coming booking site. I like the variety of their tours β and they even have super practical stuff as well β I used them to book my transportation from Rio de Janeiro to Ilha Grande for a weekend trip. Sometimes itβs easier and faster to go with transportation designed for tourists, and not spend hours transferring buses and wrestling with another language.
Health and Travel Insurance
SafetyWing
HEALTH AND TRAVEL INSURANCE
I strongly recommend making sure you have health insurance wherever you are in the world. Overall,Β SafetyWingΒ is my pick because of affordability, ease of use, they treat you like a real human being, and it covers all the basics I need β read my full review here.
Staying Fit
On the Road
Strava
RUNNING
I use Strava sneakily - to see where other people are running. In a foreign place, you don't always know the best routes - where is beautiful, where is safe. On Strava, you can see where the most activity is and try out the popular routes.
All Trails
HIKING
One of my favorite things to do all over the world is hike. All Trails is a really helpful way to find trails heads near you - wherever you are - and get intel on the trail!
Aaptiv
AUDIO FITNESS WORKOUTS
Aaptiv is SO great for working out on the road. I can choose a workout by type, length, what body parts I want to work, what equipment I have available, and choose my music. Then one of their trainers tells me exactly what to do! This is perfect for my digital nomad life - sometimes I have a gym, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I want a little motivation on an outdoor run, or someone to guide me through a yoga session.
Language
Duolingo
LEARNING A LANGUAGE
It's so important wherever you're going to make a genuine effort to learn at least some of the local language. DuoLingo is fun, easy, and free!
Google Translate
TRANSLATION
If you've ever been in a situation where you're trying to communicate with someone, and neither of you speak the other's language, but you have wifi, Google Translate is a game changer.
